Fasting

Last year I did The Daniel Fast in January. And it was GREAT!  So, I figured I'll do it every year in January. Well about a week ago, January 26th to be exact, I realized "Hey, it's January and I'm not fasting... Oops." I forgot :/

So, I started it on Monday! It's been four days and I'm still going strong! The Daniel Fast takes place in the book of Daniel, chapter ten. It consists of eating no meats, sweets or grains for 21 days (three weeks). That basically leaves fruits and vegetables. Yum... Not.

Let me share some things with you...

"During those days, I, Daniel, went into mourning over Jerusalem for three weeks. I ate only plain and simple food, no seasoning or meat or wine. I neither bathed nor shaved until three weeks were up."
-Daniel 10:2-3

Side note: Don't worry, I'm not going to give up bathing.
And guess what happened after he did this!?

"On the twenty-fourth day of the first month, as I was standing on the bank of the great river, the Tigris, I looked up and there before me was a man dressed in linen, with a belt of the finest gold around his waist. His body was like chrysolite, his face like lightening, his eyes like flaming torches, his arms and legs like the gleam of burnished bronze, and his voice like the sound of a multitude."
-Daniel 10:4-6

God himself came to Daniel! If you continue to read on in the chapter God commends him and gives him strength! He talks to him about how to save Jerusalem! How awesome is that!?!? Now, I'm not expecting God to come to me and tell me how to save America from all their sin once this fast is over or anything. But that would be pretty cool, right? Daniel fasted earlier in his life too. Listen to what happened to him after one of his earlier fasts...

"...God gave knowledge and skill in both books and in life. In addition, Daniel was gifted in understanding all sorts of visions and dreams."
-Daniel 1:17

How legit is that!? I am so excited. Yeah, it's 21 days without my second most favorite thing in the entire world... good food. But it's okay! Because it's going to bring me closer to my MOST favorite thing in the entire world... My Father!!!




PS- I am going to Moe's the day my fast is over, February 21st. Who wants to come with?

How we paid off our debt in ONE YEAR!

You guys... we paid off ALL our school debt.  This whole thing started last January. We were at the Young Life 75 conference in Florida and Dave Ramsey spoke. He was hilarious and wise and I instantly fell in love with him. He gave us all a free copy of his book. I thought that was nice but unnecessary for us. We already "budgeted" and had a (looooong) plan to pay off our debt. But it turns out that Dan needed something to read on the airplane home. By the time we landed in Ohio, Dan had figured out that if we followed this plan, we could have all our student loans, which were our only debt, paid off in 14 months! This sounded a little crazy to me but Dan was sold, so we gave it a try and whataya know... 13 months later and we're already debt free! We're moving... again!

For the past two months we've been renting a house. It's a great house. It's huge and is the perfect location and has a lot of character. Though, there are some down sides to it. It's very old so the pipes froze a lot in the winter. The walls are plaster, not dry wall, so there are lots of big and unsightly holes. Our backyard is a muddy mess. Stuff like that. But overall, I like our house a lot. Unfortunately we have had a few disagreements with our landlord. After a miscommunication in Mid-February she offered that we could break our lease with no penalties if we wanted to move out. At first, the idea was daunting. We had literally JUST unpacked our last box and hung up our final piece of artwork on the wall. We couldn't imagine packing everything back up again, transporting it, then unpacking again.
