I love books!

As hinted at in my previous post, this is all about the good books I've been reading lately! So, this may be extremely tortuous if you do not enjoy reading like I do. But if you're ever looking for a good book to read, I have many recommendations!

So as to not go on for days and days, I'll just post about the books I've read in the past 2 months or so.



Through Gates of Splendor
By Elisabeth Elliot
So, there was this tribe of crazy, ferocious, savage indigenous people in Ecuador. Prior to the Elliot's encounter with them they were considered the fiercest and most deadly tribe of people in the entire world! Jim Elliot and 4 other men (and their wives and children) followed the Lord's leading to go there and tell them of their savior! They did and unfortunately, the 5 husbands were killed by the tribe. But the wives stayed and ministered to them and now masses of them have accepted Jesus and are saved! I cried at least 5 times while reading it. The faith and perseverance of the wives was incredible and was very encouraging to read.


Dance, Children, Dance!
By Jim Rayburn III
This is the biography of Jim Rayburn, the founder of Young Life, as written by his son. As a Young Life leader, I found this book refreshing and it reminded me why I was truly leading. It's awesome! Rayburn had so much faith and it encouraged me to seek that for my life too. The legacy of Young Life is incredible and it's even more incredible that He is using little ole me to further His kingdom through it.


The Hunger Games / Caching Fire / Mockingjay

  Okay, seriously people, these are great. If you have not read them, you must. It took me like two weeks to read all three. DO IT. DO IT. DO IT.


Forgotten God
By Francis Chan
This book is all about the Holy Spirit so if you feel like you don't know very much about Him then you should definitely read this! Another awesome book about the Holy Spirit I read a few months ago is Absolute Surrender by Andrew Murray. Read that too!



Out of the Silent Planet
By C.S. Lewis
This is the book I am currently reading. Besides The Chronicles of Narnia, the only other fiction C.S. Lewis ever wrote was the Space Trilogy. (This book is the first in the series.) It's about this guy who gets abducted and taken to Malancandra, another planet in our solar system. This planet does not have sin so when the guy goes there, he brings sin with him, naturally, because he is a sinner. And it sounds totally sy-fy but it's really awesome! C.S. Lewis is my favorite!




Okay, I'm finished... for now. But seriously people, if you like to read, these are some good books. And if you don't like to read, you should read them anyway because reading is a wonderful thing! I sound like a teacher. That means enough for now. I hope you have a blessed a week!

New Year

A new year has begun and I feel like all the good bloggers post about the new year. They either look back on big moments in the past year or look forward to upcoming events in the new one. How we paid off our debt in ONE YEAR!

You guys... we paid off ALL our school debt.  This whole thing started last January. We were at the Young Life 75 conference in Florida and Dave Ramsey spoke. He was hilarious and wise and I instantly fell in love with him. He gave us all a free copy of his book. I thought that was nice but unnecessary for us. We already "budgeted" and had a (looooong) plan to pay off our debt. But it turns out that Dan needed something to read on the airplane home. By the time we landed in Ohio, Dan had figured out that if we followed this plan, we could have all our student loans, which were our only debt, paid off in 14 months! This sounded a little crazy to me but Dan was sold, so we gave it a try and whataya know... 13 months later and we're already debt free! We're moving... again!

For the past two months we've been renting a house. It's a great house. It's huge and is the perfect location and has a lot of character. Though, there are some down sides to it. It's very old so the pipes froze a lot in the winter. The walls are plaster, not dry wall, so there are lots of big and unsightly holes. Our backyard is a muddy mess. Stuff like that. But overall, I like our house a lot. Unfortunately we have had a few disagreements with our landlord. After a miscommunication in Mid-February she offered that we could break our lease with no penalties if we wanted to move out. At first, the idea was daunting. We had literally JUST unpacked our last box and hung up our final piece of artwork on the wall. We couldn't imagine packing everything back up again, transporting it, then unpacking again.
