I have a new job
That's right people, I'm a working woman again! For about three weeks I worked part time as a substitute teacher in the Chillicothe city schools here. It was fun and I liked it. I got to hang out with students all day long and I often had time to read or browse the internet. And in a few rare moments in math and science classes, I actually got to teach. But it was hard for me to go to bed at night and not know if and where I would be working the next day. And I was out of work for a straight week because mother nature dumped EIGHT inches of snow on our little town. So although I'll miss hearing things like "Do you think I could get my butt surgically removed? Like the whole entire thing?" (yes, I literally overheard this from a 7th grade boy), I am excited and ready to go back to working full time... and getting paid regularly.
I'm now working at Ohio Christian University as the Trailblazer Academy Admissions Coordinator. What is the Trailblazer Academy, you ask? It's the program at OCU that allows high school students to take college courses and earn college credit while they're still in high school. On a normal day I will filter applications, do a whole lotta data entry, prepare reports for the state, and talk to and advise high school students and parents. I just kind of fell into this job and so far, it's been awesome. The whole admissions department gets together every morning for a devotional and time of prayer. I get to eat free at the campus cafeteria (HOLLER) and the people that I work with seem wonderful. And I have an office!
Working at a university is literally (said in Chris Traeger's voice) the best job ever. You get a hecka lotta days and holidays off. When you feel bored or need to stretch your legs you can take a walk around a beautiful campus or just hop on over to Starbucks without ever getting in your car. When I worked at NKU I got to see all my friends that were still in college every single day. Seriously, what other job can you have where you see at least 15 of your friends every day? Anyway, working at a university is the best and I'm super excited to be back at one, and an awesome Christian one, at that.
God is so good, ya know. He provides every time. I'm thankful for this job and pray that God blesses me, that He is with me, while I'm here.
The only thing that sucks? I have a 30 minute commute now (boo!). Which means lots of time to listen to podcasts. Tell me some good ones and leave your recommendations in the comments!

Congrats on the new job! It sounds very exciting and perfect for you. I don't have any good podcasts for you, but if you haven't listened to Amy Poehler's "Yes Please" on audio, you absolutely have to.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Cortney!
