We're moving... again!
For the past two months we've been renting a house. It's a great house. It's huge and is the perfect location and has a lot of character. Though, there are some down sides to it. It's very old so the pipes froze a lot in the winter. The walls are plaster, not dry wall, so there are lots of big and unsightly holes. Our backyard is a muddy mess. Stuff like that. But overall, I like our house a lot.
Unfortunately we have had a few disagreements with our landlord. After a miscommunication in Mid-February she offered that we could break our lease with no penalties if we wanted to move out. At first, the idea was daunting. We had literally JUST unpacked our last box and hung up our final piece of artwork on the wall. We couldn't imagine packing everything back up again, transporting it, then unpacking again. But we had signed a two year lease and just weren't sure if we could stomach another two years of living in this property.
So we started looking around, just to see if moving out was a plausible idea. We looked into rentals all over Chillicothe but nothing was appealing. We had two puppies so we needed a yard. But we just couldn't find anything.
After a few days we realized that in order to get a house that we actually wanted we would probably have to buy it. We had a connection with a Realtor in Chillicothe so we gave her a call just to talk in theory about buying a house, because we thought there was no way we could actually buy a house. Then we called a mortgage broker friend in Cincinnati just to theoretically see what kind of loan we could get approved for, because we still thought there was no way we could actually buy a house. Then, the next thing we knew we were scheduled the next weekend to go see houses with Joyce (our Realtor friend). At this point we thought, hmm... maybe we could actually buy a house?
We saw SEVEN houses that day and fell in love with the first one that we saw. The next day we put an offer in. The owner countered once then accepted it. The house inspection came back fine. The appraiser from our bank actually came in lower than our offer so we got the house for $5,000 cheaper than what we were expecting. And now we close on Monday (three days from now)!
Clearly, God has been with us through this whole process. We cannot believe how easy it's been. Everything has kind of just fallen into place. Now we're crossing our fingers that nothing disastrous happens between now and Monday. And we can't believe that we're home owners. We own a condo in Northern Kentucky but owning a home seems more mature.
We plan on taking the next two weeks to slowly bring boxes over, paint all the walls, hang up shelves... stuff like that. We're hoping it'll be a pretty easy process since it's only five minutes away from where we live now. Then we'll do a big move with all our furniture on May 2. Are you free? Want to come up to Chillicothe to help us? We'll feed you :)
We're so excited!
PS- I'll post all kinds of pictures once we're settled in!
